“A Contemporary Look”

21st Annual Associate Artist Exhibition

January 11 – February 23, 2013

On view at the Lyme Art Association 90 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, CT 06371
Phone: 860.434.7802

The Lyme Art Association’s 4th Annual A Contemporary Look exhibition is on display in the Goodman Gallery through February 23, 2013.  In past years, this show has featured the work of regional artists who would not normally exhibit their work at the Lyme Art Association.  This year the trend continues with paintings, drawings and monotypes on view by Elizabeth Enders, Lori Warner, Susan Newbold, and William Rhodes.  Each artist comes to the Lyme Art Association with an extensive exhibition background, and the Lyme Art Association is thrilled to showcase their work.

Connecticut artist Susan Newbold’s vibrant, fluid landscapes of the French countryside are a wonderful addition to this exhibition. An accomplished painter and printmaker who often combines monoprints with drawing, and painting with other mixed media, Newbold has had the opportunity to create large bodies of work both in the United States and abroad. She has been awarded three fellowships to work in France, and has had additional residencies in New Zealand, Colorado, Vermont, Maine and Virginia. Of her work, Newbold states, “The accidental and intentional qualities of drawing and printmaking in particular are what make them a perfect fit for my study of nature as a metaphor for life.”

Journal/Yoga Workshop in Costa Rica- Sunday March 17th- Friday, March 22nd, 2013

Best Costa Rica

I am partnering with Maryfran Matichak (www.iwyoga.com), a loved yoga teacher of mine, in a workshop in a most breathtaking setting in the Nuevo Arenal, a high elevation rainforest region near Lakes Arenal and Coter at the Anandamaya Ecolodge, 500 acres of sacred land and a simple and lovely lodge.  The forest is breathtaking/ inspiring with amazing wildlife.  Our host, Ananda, is an exceptional gourmet cook using ingredients from her own garden.

Maryfran will be teaching Iyengar Yoga and it will be mixed level (Beginner to Well Practiced). The yoga will open our bodies as well as our creative energy for the journaling process. The meditation will be guided and quieting for the soul, some will be walking meditations in the forest.  I will be teaching The Illuminated Journal.  You’ll discover that the journal is a place to work out among other things one’s thoughts, desires, and discoveries.  You will create a special journal through a series of exercises which will be enlightened by this extraordinary landscape. Using different media you will create interesting methods for combining text and space. Finally you will have made an artist book which will be finished off with a special coptic binding.  The course is designed for all levels.

Costs:  $1350- 6 nights (2 people/room) in the lodge or Shared room in a cabina with a view (2 double beds), Yoga and Meditation Classes, Journaling Workshop and rainforest guided walk + a one day event OR $1100 for the same lodging but taking only one course OR $1600 (1 person/rm) Private cabana with view/both classes OR $1350 (1 person/rm) One class only. Airfare and ground transport not included.  Liberia Airport (1.5hrs. drive) or San Jose Airport (3.5 hrs.). Pick up from airport can be arranged.
